Finding a decent treat dispenser isn’t always easy. Some are too big or small for your dog or the dog treats you want to use. The Kong Genius Mike combines a well-sized dispenser with room for most treats to fit in.
Fun Factor
What I really like about this treat dispenser was the size and shape of it. It’s small enough to throw around but big enough to put in common dog treats like dog bone biscuits and marrow treats. The “plus” shape slot also makes sure the treats don’t slide or fall out too easily as many of these toys have. It also has a nice diamond shape pattern which looks slick and a nice change from all the smooth and round dog toys.
Quality & Durability
When it comes to quality and durability Kong always finds the right balance of toughness that’s rigid but has enough flex for you and your dog to have fun playing with. While it is not as thick as other Kong toys it still has a tough rubber that feels very durable. It couldn’t be too thick, or the dog would not be able to crush the treats inside which is usually how they will get the treat out of it.
Safety
With all rubber toys there is always the possibility of cracking and shredding bits of rubber. Given how well the toy has held up so far however it seems highly unlikely this will happen any time soon ad if it did it would take a long enough time that you would notice. Cleaning the inside out is a little trickier due to the design but can be rinsed with running water.
Indoor: For a fairly small and light toy I wouldn’t be too concern with throwing it around. It has a bit of bounce to it however so watch out for breakable objects at lower levels around the house.
Outdoor: Definitely can be tossed around the yard or park. Just keep an eye out for dirt getting caught in the treat slots and clean as needed.
Value
So far we are really enjoying this toy, more than I expected. It does its job well in that it takes my dog longer to get a treat out of it than other treat dispensers. It can also take a good chewing and be tossed around and feels like it will last for a very long time without any issues.
Final Thoughts
With the Kong Genius Mike I wanted something that most other dog treat dispenser don’t do which is to fully enclose a treat in a toy and not have them fall out easily even once the biscuit is crunched. This treat does that perfectly and extends the challenge and fun for the dog. It also doubles as a nice little fetch toy which looks and feels great.
