A Shark That Can Take a Bite
Tuffy Dog Toys claim to be the most durable plush dog toys on the market. Can this Tuffy Ocean Shark take a bite or is the claim all fluff?
Fun Factor
This plush shark dog toy has a fun look to it with blue and black stripes throughout the body. It has good weight to it which allows it to be thrown far for a plush toy and will slide as well. It also is a decent size for bigger dogs and they’ll enjoy thrashing it around.
Quality & Durability
The filling for this toy is impressive and very well packed giving the toy a very firm feel and allows the shark to hold its shape very well over time. Its what gives the shark a good amount of weight and feel more proper for a dog than an average plush toy which is usually very soft like something you would give to kids to cuddle with. The fabric and stitching is also above average though not perfect. Eventually it will fall apart at the seams.
Safety
While it will outlast a cheap, average plush toy this toy was no match for Eli which is ironic because they have a picture of a rottweiler as the recommended dog size. Prepare for an inevitable pile of fluff and a crushed plastic squeaker.
Indoor: It’s soft but has some weight to it so be careful when throwing or if the dog is whipping it around breakable objects.
Outdoor: This tighter fabric is less likely to absorb moisture than average plush fabrics but as with all fabrics they will get wet and catch some dirt. Wash as needed if used outside.
Value
This plush toy actually lasted around 2 weeks with my dog. By my Eli’s standards as well as most dog toys for rottweilers that can be a very long time. At first he dismantled some fins and eventually got in to the cavity through the sharks mouth.
Final Thoughts
While Eli’s bite bested the shark’s bite in the end the toy held up for an above average time for my dog. Other than having the front squeaker removed the rest of the shark is intact and we still use the shark carcass as a tug toy. I guess you can say, in the end, the shark didn’t have the last bite.
Overall Score
This above average durability plush toy is sure to give most medium sized and larger dogs a good time for a few weeks. If your dog is using it as a chew toy keep an eye out for fins and holes.
- Firm and well packed plush toy
- Durable fabric and solid stitching
- Good size for bigger dogs
- Lots of fins that can be chewed off
- If targeted fabric can be punctured
- May be heavy for small dogs
